Silhouette Soliloquy, a Pandemic Project

I was inspired by small, Morandi-esque, still-life objects I had in the studio from teaching virtually. I drew along with the students during online classes. Over time, my drawn objects morphed into flat, silhouetted shapes. The arrangement of the objects is a metaphor for the isolating experience of quarantine – alone together, distanced from family and friends, and grouped by household. The silhouettes function as flat surface shapes and portals onto infinite space, while the abstract grounds reflect the daily uncertainty of the pandemic. In the series, twenty-four drawings denote the hours of the day, and the squares are seven inches to indicate the days of the week. The drawings document time and the repetition of living in a monotony of days.
